Landschaftspark Duisburg – 2014

The transformation of the former Meiderich ironworks in Duisburg-Nord into an extensive urban landscape park, designed by Peter Latz in 1991, exemplifies a sensitive response to an abandoned site of heavy industry and its significance to the cultural memory of the area. Retaining the integrity of the original layout and preserving the structures of the ironworks itself, the site becomes open for exploration. Employing phytoremediation to neutralise polluted soil, the planting interleaves with the complex structural ruin to create a post-industrial Arcadia.
